Groupthink occurs when group members choose not to voice their concerns or objections because they would rather keep the peace and not annoy or antagonize others. Sometimes groupthink occurs because the group has a positive team spirit and camaraderie, and individual group members don’t want that to change by introducing conflict. It can also occur because past successes have made the team complacent where Conformity is the process of matching attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors to group norms. Conformity can be caused by a willingness to follow rules, comply with leadership wishes, and the desire for a sense of protection and security.
*Groupthink can happen in any organization, big or small, business or non-profit, and private or public. The key is to realize when it is happening in a group setting and then make the right changes that best fit the organization’s goals and objectives.
In the video below, we will see an example of teaching groupthink to students and the importance of enabling others to think for themselves.

This assignment is to be at least 3 pages long (and not more than 5), not including title and reference pages, and should follow the formatting requirements in the ERAU College of Business Writing Style Guide.
– Introduce the topic and summarize the paper.
The main body of the paper:
– What are the general concepts of groupthink?
– How can groupthink impact group decision-making?
– What are some ways to eliminate groupthink in a group environment?
– Provide a personal example of groupthink in an organization that you have been part of.
– Provide a summary of the paper.
– Provide an overview of what the reader should take away from the paper (purpose).
This module’s topic focused on Decision Making. You were exposed to framework, processes, and offered applied lessons.
Reflect upon the message and themes learned from the assigned reading materials. In particular, focus on how your current or prior work environment includes decision-making as a managerial experience, process, and procedure on a daily basis. Think through the impact of decisions, from the minor to the major decisions on the organization. Decision Making can be straightforward, completed collaboratively, come from a top-down approach, or conducted in a very linear way. Knowing your stakeholders, your audience, and the externalities involved in decisions is key to understanding the impacts while also choosing the right process to follow. Surrounding every decision is the need to communicate the issue(s), the process, and the results or impact to others.
For this assignment, you are tasked with crafting an Infographic.
Infographics are visual communication tools that use pictures, minimal textboxes, sometimes hyperlinks, space, and color to effectively and efficiently spread a message. Infographics are tailored to the experience, crafted for a specific reason, and are used to reach multiple audiences.
You will craft an infographic based on Decision Making and applied to your organization (or one that you are familiar with). Put time, effort, and your creative mind into developing an infographic that effectively communicates one of the concepts of Decision Making that has been discussed in this module. For example, you may want to highlight bounded rationality or depict how the brain processes information for decision-making or craft a flow chart for improving quality decisions. You may choose any concept of Decision Making that we have reviewed in this module.
You can create your infographic through any platform, but here are a few suggestions: Piktochart, PPT, Publisher.

For all discussions you are expected to post ONE initial response to the discussion questions described below and AT LEAST ONE follow-up to one of your group member’s posts. You can and are encouraged to post more than this requirement since we are hoping to create a dialog. As I mentioned earlier, our collective experiences are one of the areas we as a group need to mine…as in gold mine! For more details with respect to the expectations in the posts, please review the syllabus and the scoring rubric, and reach out to your instructor.
1. Having spent some time on enhancing our emotional intelligence and self-awareness, we would be remiss not to acknowledge that sometimes a person is just not a good fit for a position. As a leader, you will certainly be called upon, or have been called upon to determine that. However, in professional settings, the resources that ‘enable’ a position may not be established in such a way that the employee is set up for success. One of those incredibly important resources is leadership! There are two components to the discussion this week. The first, have you or someone you know experienced being an unhappy middle manager and if so, were/are there any factors in the article “Why Middle Managers are so Unhappy” that contributed to the dissatisfaction? If so, please share. Second, as a leader, what should you take away from this article with respect to how you manage/lead?
2. There is an interesting trade off between staying with a position and perhaps a calling, and seeking other opportunities. Often, we have been reminded of or have had scripture revealed to us that encourages us in the situation that we are in. Share your experience and the scripture. It serves us all well to be able to share how the Lord is working in our lives.

Sharing Your Story
We’ve been studying various aspects of management and leadership and learning about your abilities throughout the course. As you move closer to earning a Trident degree, there will be more opportunities to tell your story and motivate the next generation. Video and in-person speaking engagements are a natural part of career progression.
Over the last three modules, you have learned about the power of management and developed skills that will serve you now and in the future. It is time to present yourself as a role model for tomorrow’s leaders. Be compelling.
THE STORY IN WRITING
Write a 250- to 350-word document sharing your professional story. First, let us know what you do for a living and where you work(ed). It should include a brief discussion of how Trident education and this course will help you achieve career goals.
IDEAS: Is there something about you that is unique? Did you overcome obstacles? Will you be the first college graduate in your family? Talk about why you started college; perhaps you can inspire someone else.
3- to 3½-MINUTE VIDEO
Briefly introduce yourself and share your story. You can talk about the same content that is written but don’t read it. Impromptu speaking has a different impact than reading from a screen or piece of paper. What you say can be the impetus for another person making a positive change in their life.
SCRIPT: A 250- to 300-word written document using the attached template (MGT280 Case4 Template) which MUST contain a YouTube, Vimeo, or other video link to your presentation (should be 3-3½ minutes maximum). Module 1 – Case
Leadership Traits, Behaviors, and Styles
All of you have probably read quite a bit about the world’s wealthiest man—Bill Gates. But some of you are probably not nearly as familiar with Bill Gates’s main rival and world’s seventh wealthiest man, former Oracle CEO Larry Ellison. Ellison recently retired as Chief Executive officer (CEO) but is still active as the chair of Oracle’s board of directors. Unlike Gates, who is relatively reserved, Ellison is known for his extravagant lifestyle and boastful interviews.
The rivalry between Ellison and Gates is legendary, but not quite as much is known about Ellison’s leadership style. He has been described as a “jerk,” and his managerial style has been described as “take no prisoners.” While he is unquestionably a powerful leader, he has also been criticized for spending a lot of time playing golf while leaving many leadership duties to his subordinates.
For this assignment, read up on leadership traits, leadership behaviors, and leadership styles in the required background materials. Then read up on Larry Ellison and find as much as you can about his personality and leadership style. Finally, try to apply what you’ve read in the required background materials about leadership traits, behaviors, and styles to what you found out about Larry Ellison.
Here are some articles to get you started on your research about Ellison:
Hymowitz, C. (2005). Working fewer hours is hard for most CEOs, but some find a way. Wall Street Journal, p. B1. Retrieved from the Trident Online Library.
Leibovich, M. (2000). The outsider, his business and his billions series: The new imperialists: Larry Ellison, oracle until himself. The Washington Post, p. A1. Retrieved from the Trident Online Library.
Mendleson, R. (2010). Why it pays to be a jerk. Canadian Business, 83(18), 28-30, 32, 34. Retrieved from the Trident Online Library.
Watch the following video:
Fox Business. (2018, October 25). Larry Ellison: I had all the disadvantages necessary for success [Video]. YouTube. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vrZoRNSQSPw
Once you are finished with your research on Ellison and have thoroughly reviewed the background materials on leadership traits, behaviors, and styles, write a 3-page paper (excluding title and references pages) to include 3 scholarly sources addressing the questions below. For each answer, make sure to cite at least one of the Case Assignment articles listed on this page as well as one of the required textbook chapters from the background materials from Hiriyappa (2009), or Bauer & Erdogan (2012).
How would you describe Ellison’s leadership style?
How would you describe Ellison’s personality and leadership traits?
Would you describe Ellison’s behavior as being task-oriented, or people/relationship-oriented?
Would you describe Ellison’s leadership style as diverse and inclusive? If so or if not, please explain your response.
Your Case Assignment should be at least 3 pages in length (excluding title and reference pages).
Be sure to cite and reference (using APA Style) a minimum of 3 scholarly sources listed in the Course Materials and Bibliography (Module 1 Required and Optional Reading List), or in the Module 1 Background Page: Required and Optional Readings.
Upload your paper to the Module 1 Case Dropbox before the assignment due date.
Include both a reference page and in-text citations.

This weeks discussions are slightly different from the previous weeks discussions. We are not focusing on approaches as we have done for previous weeks, but more on ethical principles for leadership. Ethical principles are critical for leadership in health care organizations and organizations outside of health care such as education. A good leader that is respected by their staff and peers in general will have a good moral compass. Ethics represents a broad set of viewpoints, but ethical conduct needs to be defined. Leadership ethics describes what leaders do, who leaders are and how they represent themselves.
Chapter 13 Questions
1. Define ethics as it relates to leadership. The answer should be a minimum of one sentence.
2. Discuss figure 13.3 in your text in relation to attributes of ethical leadership. Each answer should be at least one paragraph.
3. Go to the American College of Health Care Executives link and describe at least 5 codes of ethics for health care managers. Please see the following link:
Each answer should be in accordance with the discussion rubric.
